... the electric wheelchair, that is.
You see, when I was a junior in high school, a football injury left me a quadriplegic. An athlete unable to walk. A student unable to turn the pages of a book. To me the electric chair seemed like a death sentence - the end of the world as I knew it.

That was September 3, 1971. I still use the chair today, but the chair has been transformed. Now it's more like a speaker's platform than a wheelchair. Today, I am a motivational speaker and health educator with good news to tell.

Watch Mike's keynote address for the Metropolitan Center for Independent Living's 25th Anniversary Banquet October 25, 2006 in St. Paul, Minnesota. It's in six short videos, so you can view any part of it, or watch the entire 45-minute presentation. The choice is yours. As a quick side note, Mike was in the middle of a 32-day hospitalization at the time, and was released for a few hours of 'therapeutic recreation' to give this speech. After the banquet, he headed back to the hospital, and was finally released November 9th!
The problem is not the issue, the issue is how you deal with the problem.
The good news is: we are all very capable people. We just need to find out what those capabilities are and how we can use them to our advantage. My presentation entitled "Think About It" helps individuals overcome obstacles, creatively solve problems and perform successfully - at school, at work and at home.
I'm a realist. I want my audience to start thinking and to learn if they think things through, they can find a solution to just about any problem.
The problem is not the issue, the issue is how you deal with the problem.
I'd like to share my message with your school, group or organization. What I have to say will make you laugh. Some of it will make you cry. I can guarantee you this, it will make you "Think About It."
Let me tell you about it sometime.
